Wendy shares her account of living with pancreatitis over an 11-year period and the successful TPIAT procedure she underwent in 2021 under the direction of Professor Ashley Dennison in the HPB Unit at the University Hospitals of Leicester, NHS Trust.

Since her operation, Wendy has dedicated her time to supporting other patients undergoing assessment for islet auto-transplantation. She provides valuable insights into the journey, detailing what the procedure and recovery process entail. Additionally, Wendy actively raises awareness and funds for the Leicester HPB Unit to support their research, helping to ensure more patients can benefit from this treatment.

Hello | Chelsea’s Story

Chelsea was diagnosed with hereditary pancreatitis at age eleven and faced many years of hospital admissions due to severe stomach pain and complications of the disease. At 17, she underwent a life-changing operation—a total pancreatectomy with islet auto-transplantation (TPIAT)—under the direction of Professor Toby Coates at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Adelaide, Australia. This procedure has been highly successful, allowing Chelsea to live a pain-free and normal life. This short video captures Chelsea’s experience of dealing with her disease.
