  • Biography:
Tareq is an HPB surgery research fellow pursuing a higher research degree at the University of Leicester under the supervision of Professor Ashley Dennison and Professor Marco Oggioni. His research focuses on the ex-vivo perfusion of human organs as a platform for microbiology studies, inspired by his academic experiences during his HPB surgery fellowship in the HPB unit at the University Hospitals of Leicester.

Tareq completed his undergraduate and medical education in Jordan and underwent general surgery training in the Royal Medical Services in Jordan before moving to the UK for further specialization and training in HPB surgery. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2018 and the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2021.

In addition to his clinical and academic activities, Tareq has a keen interest in leadership, management, and medical education. He has completed a year as an East Midlands Clinical Senate Leadership and Management Fellow, where he participated in clinical reviews, service reorganization, and proactive projects on robotic surgery and the assessment of greener NHS policies in the Midlands. His commitment to surgical education is evident through his involvement in establishing a journal club, induction programs for new junior trainees, and participation as faculty in various courses. To further enhance his expertise in medical education, Tareq is pursuing a master’s degree in medical education, which he is expected to complete by January 2025.
