  • Biography:
John is a Consultant Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgeon in Leicester. John is originally from Kenya and completed his education in Kenya, South Africa and the UK. He was awarded first class honours for his intercalated BSc in Cell Physiology and Pharmacology, which he undertook whilst completing his medical training at the University of Leicester. During his training he was awarded a competitive National Institute of Healthcare Research Academic Clinical Fellow position. He was awarded his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in 2017 for his thesis entitled: “A pilot study investigating specific immune regulatory cells and microRNA in patients with advanced Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma treated with intravenous omega-3 fish oil infusion and Gemcitabine” under the guidance of Professor Ashley Dennison. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2021 and completed a multi organ transplant and retrieval placement in Cambridge during his final year in training.

John has completed 3 years as an East Midlands Clinical Senate Leadership and Management Fellow. As part of this role he participated in senate reviews, reorganisation, and commissioning group tasks and clinical advisory groups. He has published several of these proactive reviews on the senate website and on pubmed. John is now an East Midlands Senate council member. In addition, John has an active interest in research supporting department research projects and fellows. John has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and in addition, has presented at international, national, and regional conferences. He has been awarded several prizes including the prestigious 2021 ASGBI and Pancreas Cancer UK national traveling fellowship that supported visits to international units. John is currently the Leicester HPB Cancer chair, joint clinical lead and co-lead for the CHUGGS education department.
