News | Living with Pancreatic Cancer – Information Day

On Tuesday 2nd February we held our first `Living with Pancreatic cancer Information day’ at The White House, Scraptoft, Leicester. This day was sponsored and hosted by Pancreatic Cancer UK (PCUK) and supported by the HPB unit’s Clinical Nurse Specialists and our Macmillan Pancreatic Dietitian, Ruth Boyce. The event was well attended with an audience, comprising of patients, family members and friends. We were also joined by Amanda Edwards, Dietitian at Peterborough, Richard Moody, Leicester Macmillan Information Officer and Daryl Xavier, Dietetic Assistant, Leicester.

The programme had a variety of talks regarding pancreatic cancer.

  • Mr.Garcea, Consultant Surgeon, spoke on the launch of the HPB unit’s “My Pancreas App”, as well as treatment updates.

  • Jeni Jones, PCUK representative, gave an update on the charity’s services and current campaigning activities.

  • Ruth and Amanda held an open session on dietary issues and pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy.

  • Following the lunchtime break, everyone was invited to have free therapeutic hand massages which were provided by volunteers from the “Time for a Treat” Team. This also gave the opportunity for more informal questions to be answered.

Following the success of this day, PCUK have kindly offered to hold and support another information day, which is booked for Tuesday 26th July 2016.
